Can't connect to vCenter 5.1

I am trying to add vCenter 5.1 to our SolarWinds system. We current have a vCenter 4 in there and is working fine, but we are looking to upgrade to vCenter 5. I have vCenter 5 all setup, but SolarWinds will not connect to it when I provide it valid credentials. The only differance between the two vCenters is that vCenter 5.1 is on the Appliance from VMware while vCenter 4 is on Windows. Has anyone else had this issue? Or does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong?

We are currently running Orion Code 2012.2.0 and NCM 7.1.1.

Output:   =====================================

Orion is installed on Windows 2008 R2 and exchange management tools are installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody,

I don't know why but all the interfaces' status of switches in the network have been changed to "Interface Disappeared". Does anyone have any idea in this regard?

I am using version 10.0 of NPM.

Re: HTTP monitor multiple IP addresses Dyamically

I've been playing around another idea:

To manually set the secondary IP Address of each machine as a Custom property, and then use it in the HTTP Monitor on my template.

It's still very "manual", but saves the time it takes to drill into the HTTP Monitor inside the template of each node and bypass the ${IP} macro.

However - I can't seem to get SAM's HTTP Monitor to use this custom property as a macro variable.

Am I missing something, or is it simply not supported?

Client Certificate Management Problem

I have Windows XP SP3 machine that I cannot get the 3rd party cert installed on. I can do everything else I need to the machine, but I cannot install the cert. This cert is working fine on hundreds of other machines. When I run the Client Certificate Management tool I receive the following results from the task:

Client Certificate Management
Object:
CN=WSUS Publishers Self-signed
Status: Failed

Details: NotFound Not found

Has anyone else seen this issue before?

Thanks.

Voted on, and thanks for sparing me the wrist cramps I would have assuredly gotten by having to create that feature request

You got it, I don't like having the variable set at the OS level either.

Spring and Summer 2013 list of user feedback sessions

User feedback sessions are GoToMeeting sessions where you get a chance to influence the next generation of SolarWinds products and websites (e.g. solarwinds.com, customer portal, etc).  Activities include "sneak peeks" at new features or products in development, "show us how you use it" sessions where you take us on a tour of your environment and show us what's working well and what you'd like to see changed, and more.  Sessions generally last an hour, but we have activities which take as little as 10 minutes and as long as an hour and a half.  Each time you participate, you can earn 2,000 thwack points, but more importantly, you really get a chance to shape direction and strategy.

We'll keep a running list here of opportunities for you, our user community, to provide feedback on SolarWinds products and websites here. Check back periodically or mark this thread as a favorite!

Show us how you use subviews in your environment: May 2013 (full)

  • Time commitment:  60 minutes
  • Show us the subviews you use in your environment.  What's on your subviews? What inspired you to create them? What's missing in order to make this feature more useful?
  • Contact:  kellie.mecham@solarwinds.com

Capacity planning for your virtual infrastructure: May 2013 (5 sessions available)

  • Time commitment:  60 minutes
  • If you are in charge of capacity planning for your virtual environment, regardless of which tools you use (if any) to do this task, we want to talk to you!  Help us understand your process, show us the tools you use currently, talk to us about what triggers planning and the issues you have with your process right now.
  • Contact:  kellie.mecham@solarwinds.com

SAM Users: Show us how you are monitoring your Exchange Server environment: May 2013 (10 sessions available)

  • Time commitment: 30-60 minutes
  • If you are responsible for monitoring your Exchange Server environment, regardless of which tools you use to do this, we want to talk to you!  Help us understand what your Exchange environment looks like and how you make sure it is running smoothly.  (related post can be found here: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/56035)

New to NPM users (been using 6 months or less):  Give us feedback on some flows for web-based reporting

  • Time Commitment:  60 minutes; any time between 7am and 11am Central time Tuesday, June 25 to Thursday, June 27
  • If you are new to SolarWinds NPM and are responsible for creating reports, we want to show you a sneak peek of some new ideas for web-based reporting

New to SolarWinds NPM & interested in improving reporting?—We want to talk to you!

The SolarWinds UX (User Experience) team is looking for people who have only been using SolarWinds NPM for 6 months or less who are interested in spending an hour with us to get a sneak peek at some revised design ideas for reporting on the web.

If you have used NPM for 6 months or less and have an hour to give us between 7am and 11am Central Tuesday, June 25th to Thursday, June 27th, we want to hear from you!  Not only will you get an opportunity to influence future development of NPM, you will also get 2,000 points in the thwack store which you can use to buy t-shirts, caps, and other SolarWinds swag.

Don’t worry if you’re not the most sophisticated users on thwack.  We’re really looking for noobs for this, so if that’s how you would describe yourself (as long as you’re someone who would be creating reports as part of your job), then we want to talk to you!

To sign up or learn more, contact kellie.mecham@solarwinds.com directly by sending me a private email.   Thanks!

Thanks for the links...

What I'm really trying to understand is how Orion will respond under the following scenarios:

(1)    If the primary (active) server should fail and the WAN circuit is up.

(I assume the passive-running-as-APE will take over as the primary active and users will access the web portal via it's IP address in the US).

(2)    If the primary (active) server should fail and the WAN circuit is down.

(I assume both the active and passive-running-as-APE will continue to operate...but I'm not sure what users will see when they login to the web portal running on the active primary).

(3)    If the secondary (passive) server should fail and the WAN circuit is up.

(since the secondary is running as an APE, it will cease to function and I'm guessing the nodes that it collects will appear as down?)

(4)    If the secondary (passive) server should fail and the WAN circuit is down.

(I assume the same as #3)

Any status on this? Was wondering if the generic script is avaliable.

Your router can't handle the traffic.  Example we had 100Mbps port feeding our internet connected router that only had a DS3 to the internet.  So when receive traffic to the router goes over DS3 speeds for too long we would get over runs.

this work, if you monitor with WMI instead of SNMP.
