Mobile Admin 8.1 on Q10

I am having an issue using MA 8.1 on a Verizon Blackberry Q10 running v10.1.0.4189.

The issue is when you SSH into a Unix system, and try to use special characters by pressing the SYM key.  It will not display them into the terminal window.  As you can imagine, without the ability to use pipes, equal, etc it is basically useless.

This process works on a Verizon BlackBerry Z10 running 10.1.0.2039 but there is no SYM key to bring up the symbols (since there is only a virtual keyboard).

Does anyone has any suggestions/workarounds for this issue?
