New here and to DRS, but am extremely anxious to get it up and running. I installed DRS (not centralized server version) on my machine inside our district office domain. Works great, can explore local machines joined to the domain and easily troubleshoot anything locally. However when I add our other domains to the Active Directory section nothing works.
I've narrowed it down to the simple fact that DRS isn't connecting to the remote machine with it's full computer name. So when it tries to reach WT-RSP-D002 it fails, but if I connect to the admin$ share on the machine using the full name WT-RSP-D002.domain2.sch it works just fine. I setup a trust relationship between these two domains and added domain2.sch as a forwarder in DNS on domain1.sch but no matter what I can't resolve an IP address when I ping WT-RSP-D002. I've also set the DC in domain2.sch as an alternate PDC lookup in DRS properties.
I've come up with a workaround which is to manually add each computer under my favorite machines, but we have hundreds of machines and I'd like to avoid that step if possible.
I guess my 1st question would be from domain1 should I be able to ping a computer in domain2 just by it's computer name (WT-RSP-D002)?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
